Discussions among two groups at NWA Administrators Retreat

NWAWP Teacher Consultants and Fellows are invited to take advantage of any of the opportunities listed below. Note that these programs have been in hiatus with the coronavirus pandemic, so please check back as in-person gatherings return to being the norm, or we instead choose to revise the format and scope.

NWA Administrator Retreat of the College of Education and Health Professions

Summer Institute for Science Teachers — This initiative seeks to build strategies and lessons to improve your own students’ thinking and learning in science by infusing instruction with meaningful writing (more than just lab reports).

Creative Nonfiction Writers Circle — This writing group gathers monthly over the course of the year to read and write together. NWAWP will cover the reading fee and a year-long subscription to Creative Nonfiction for all participants who submit essays to the journal. Space is limited.

NBCT Support Groups — If you would like to apply for National Board Certification, contact NWAWP to connect with other Fellows and Teaching ConsultantsTCs in the network who can help support you in this process.

Research Roundtable — Join NWAWP staff, Fellows, Teaching Consultants and participating teachers each spring for a day of sharing classroom-based research projects. This is a great place to try out ideas you may be considering for conference presentations or publication. Professional development credit is available for this event.

Salon Nights — The National Writing Project and its sites understand that good writing requires nourishment. Join the network for an evening of food, drink, writing and fellowship.

Writing Lesson Exchange — Join NWAWP staff, Fellows, Teaching Consultants and participating teachers each fall for a day of sharing writing practices that work. This is a great place to try out ideas you may be considering for conference presentations or publication. Professional development credit is available for this event.

Writing Retreats — Need an excuse to spend a night or two being inspired in Eureka Springs? Does a few days on the Buffalo River, and reading and writing with no distractions, sound like a good way to pass the weekend? Keep in touch, and we’ll let you know about these retreats as they are offered.

Invitational Summer Institute — A hallmark of National Writing Project sites around the country, the ISI brings teachers together to read, write and collaborate in professionally and personally meaningful ways.
